I’m trying Pnotepad for a while now and it is really great, but one thing annoys me a tiny bit: I have the option ‘remember last open files and projects’ between sessions activated. If I restart pnotepad, the active filetab from the last sessions always gets moved to the right of all other filetabs. Example: opened file tabs: file1 | File2 | file3 If I now activate file1 and then restart pnotepad, the tab order looks like this: File2 | file3 | file1 Would it be possible that the tab order is always kept? I always work with a set of preferred files and find it a little disturbing that the file tabs get re-arranged anytime I restart pnotepad after activating some other file tab. If other users prefer the current behaviour, this could be introduced as a new option, e.g. [ ] keep tab order between sessions Anyway, thank you for this great piece of software! |

Hm, any opinions/comments on this little issue? |

OK, I know this might not be a big issue, but any chance of a comment? Personally I prefer the file tabs having always the same order, and this also is quite a usual behaviour in almost every ‘tabbed’ application. |

Sorry, I keep forgetting to reply to this! Yes, it’s a known issue and one that would be nice to fix. It’s not been high on my priorities because it’s not the easiest thing to fix. The list of the tabs saved in the file is controlled by the order in which Windows chooses to enumerate the tabs – this isn’t the order of the tabs, but is somewhat controlled by recent tab use. To fix it means we need to get the order from somewhere else and apply it to the list of tabs being saved. Hopefully I’ll get to it in a future release. |

Thank you for the reply simon! This is a minor issue and there are more important things for sure, so I’ll be patient until you find some time to address this. |

Having the tabs show up in a different place when I start up drives me crazy. I really find it irritating. I hope it isn’t too difficult to fix. I have tried 6 different notepads in the past couple months and I like most everything about this one except this one issue. If this issue gets fixed, I’ll donate some money. And I’ll spread the word to all my programmer collegues. How about that for bribery |

I have been trying to get used to the tabs being in different places; but it is driving me crazy. Sorry for being a nag, I am not usually like this. Regards, Rodney |

I don’t want to enforce things with that issue, but I’d like to bump this though, especially as I’m not the only user who is concerned about that issue. Pnotepad is getting better and better with every release (Thank you Simon!), and I have to admit that the one and only thing stopping me from using it as my everyday editor is this annoying (and uncommon) tab-order behaviour. As you said, Simon, it’s not that easy to fix and I know there are more important things on your list, but I still hope you can find a way to fix this in some later release. This would render this almost perfect editor to a completely perfect one. |

I’m way more than glad about that, thank you very much for this! I can’t wait for the next release to finally use this great editor on a daily basis. And I hope you hadn’t to stay awake too long tonight for this fix… |

I just had a look at pn 2.15 and the order of the file tabs is now remembered between sessions. Thank you very much for that fix Simon!!! Although there is one last tiny thing about the file tabs that I’d like to be added if possible: Currently, when pn is restarted, the rightmost file tab always gets the focus. Would it be possible to also restore which file tab was active in the previous session? I would prefer if pn would start with the exact same file tab activated as in the session before. I hope this could be added if it’s not too difficult to implement. |
