I upgraded to 2.0.9.921 this morning, but now the toolbars (Standard, Edit, etc) keep showing up when I start PN. I can hide them (View | Toolbars | uncheck each one), but when I restart PN they are back. This didn't happen before I upgraded. Anyone know how to tweak things by hand so they stay gone? Or I guess I could revert to the older PN. Vertical screen real estate is very valuable!
Toolbars will not go away

Weird, I've tried to reproduce this with both the main and portable builds and can't see the problem. Someone reported the same bug once before, but I've never been able to work out what's going on. Could you provide a few more details:
Operating System
PN Portable/Installer/Zip
Order you uncheck the toolbars in
Which docking windows are visibleI run without the toolbars most of the time, so it's definitely possible, we just need to work out why it's not working for you.

Sure, thanks for the help. I am running XP Home Edition, SP3. I used the PN Installer first to install whatever the version immediately before the current version was, and then to install the current version over it (I did not uninstall the old version first). I have tried unchecking the toolbars in order (File, Edit, Find, Schemes) and reverse order (Schemes, Find, Edit, File). The toolbars disappear as they should. Then I immediately close PN without doing anything else, and when I reopen it, the toolbars are back. I have no docking windows visible, just the tab bar and the action bar at the bottom of the MDI window. Status bar is gone too, and that stays gone between sessions. I am happy to try stuff out to help debug, let me know what you would like me to do.

I had the same problem. I've never been able to get the toolbars to stay gone, since a long time ago (months and months). We still can't figure out what's going on here.

Can you both please try importing this as a .reg file:

Do this while PN is closed and then load it, I want to know if this removes your toolbars.
Thanks.

Didn't work. I copied & pasted that into a .reg file, closed PN, then imported the .reg file. Re-opening PN still had all the toolbars. I even tried manually closing all toolbars in PN before closing it and importing the .reg. So strange...
v2.0.9.872-devel & 2.0.9.926

Added an issue to track this:
http://code.google.com/p/pnotepad/issues/detail?id=355
I'll try and add some diagnostics to work out what's happening here, but I'm also looking into maybe getting rid of the re-arrangeable toolbars and replacing with a single fixed-position customisable one (you'll still be able to hide it of course). This would resolve the problem too.

Same here. Windows XP SP3 German, PNotepad build 2.0.9.926-devel.
I downloaded the ZIP file and unpacked it.
I'm not running the application using an Administrator account, could that be a problem?

It shouldn't make any difference but I will check that.

Funny ... I use Programmer's Notepad for a year or so, and my thought was "moving and deleting toolbars is just a funny option with no sense here", because the new positions won't be stored. After a restart it's reset to default settings.
The registry entries have no effect.Posted 3 years ago #
